Quote-Tastic/Review: The Art of Sinning by Sabrina Jeffries

quote-tastic final with green border

Edwin Barlow, the Earl of Blakeborough and Jeremy start a "club" to protect sisters, and wards from rakes and scoundrels. But can they protect them from the club itself?

Jeremy Keane is a famous American artist who has traveled abroad finding subjects to paint his rather unorthodox paintings. He's known as a rakehell and a charming rogue. He frequents "nunneries" or rather brothels. In actuality, he uses the lower class to create his masterpieces. He's a dedicated artist and he's looking for a muse. He sees the goddess that is Yvette and has to paint her.

Yvette Barlow has had a nearly ruinous encounter with a charming rogue in the past. She feels she knows just what tricks Jeremy can pull and vows to avoid them. She only agrees to the scandalous portrait to gain entrance to the Covent Garden nunneries. She's in search of someone who associates with the nunneries.

Yvette and Jeremy were perfect for each other. Their secret nights of painting let them converse and get to know each other more than interacting in society would have done. They both had troubled pasts Jeremy's has made him run for years and Yvette has survived. I admired Yvette, she was very determined and would let nothing stop her from pursuing her task. Jeremy is such a sweetheart! Oh, he tries to be a rogue but inside he's such a protector. The tragedy in his past holds him tight though and he's not sure if he could ever love someone.

There is definitely some sinning going on during those secret visits. I found this quote to be funny in the midst of the sensual happenings.
“I assume that sculptors are terrible students of anatomy.”
“What?” he asked, clearly startled.
“On statues, the men’s privates are . . . well . . . small and demure.”
“Demure.” He uttered a choked laugh. “That’s because the men aren’t aroused, sweetheart. An aroused man looks very different from a man with his prick at rest.”

I truly enjoyed the secondary characters. We get just a smidgen of taste of whats to come with them and what the pairings might become. Poor Edwin deserves a good story. I've felt sorry for him for two books now.

The Sinful Suitors is a spinoff of the Duke's Men. Jeremy Keane was introduced in How the Scoundrel Seduces in a surprising twist. I would recommend you read the Duke's Men series before reading this because you'll get to know the backstory of the characters a little better. It's not necessary but they were some excellent stories and you should read them anyway. LOL :)

Review: Ever Night by Gena Showalter

My Rockin' Review

Something terrible happened in the past between the Monstrea and the walkers. Walkers are humans that are bound to both worlds but only arrive in Nightmare on their birthdays every year, starting with their 18th birthday. The Monstrea are the Kings army and citizens. I loved the Monstrea race and would love to learn more. I can forsee many more stories to come out of this one!

Rose started ogg a mouse but soon developed into her own. She definitely has the mettle to stand up to King Vasily. He is entranced with her from the beginning, it was sweet to see a hardened warrior succumb to luster and love. For a novella the romance was appropriately shown to be short but in actual time it was years.

There were some definite possibilities of more stories to come with some interesting secondary characters. How does his shy brother overcome his shyness? Does Gregori get the redhead?
Another excellent story by Gena Showalter. A quick adventure into a whole new world, it left me wanting more!

Review: The Lords of Worth Series by Kelly Bowen

Lord's of Worth Series

I'm combining these reviews of the Lord's of Worth Series. If you'd like to read my review of the first book, I’ve Got My Duke To Keep Me Warm, you can find it here. I have enjoyed every story in this series and hope for more from Kelly Bowen really soon! I want more of Luke, Joseph and the Lady Eleanor. I'm not ready to let go of them! Kelly Bowen has become one of my favorite authors with this series. There's great fun, witty dialogue, exhilarating adventures, and passionate romances.

A Good Rogue is Hard to Find

Deliciously entertaining, but with tremendous depth. The Duchess and the chickens were hilarious! The “rogue” in this story isn’t really a rogue and some of the plot is a little fanciful, but Bowen pulls it off. Will, Duke of Worth, is worried about his eccentric mother, and misses one of his chances to race his prize winning filly. The whole plot revolves around the prestigious Ascot race. Jenna, is a delightful, passionate and courageous young lady. I love the journey of how they go from antagonistic adversaries to a sweet romance. The first half is light hearted but the second has grim tendencies. I love how Bowen sneaks in some real gritty plot points. Excellent second book! I can’t wait to read about Will’s sister and best friend! ;)

[book-info number="1"]

Love that Viola got her story! Poor girl need to grow up. Nathaniel was the perfect man to help her do so. The message about knowing what you really want in life and whose opinion should really matter was perfect for this short novella. I'm happy Viola found fulfillment in being a surgeons wife. She deserved a better story than just being a flighty, selfish character.

[book-info number="2"]

Mystery and adventure reign again in this final novel of the Lord's of Worth! Heath, the Earl of Boden, is looking for wife who will take care of his domestic matters so he can concentrate on his business of making money. Only one thing interrupts his search, his desire for his best friends' sister, Lady Josephine "Joss" Somerhall.

Joss is an independent, intelligent woman.  She was sent abroad for her own safety years ago, and she has developed into a world traveler and a bluestocking. Her gift of languages is phenomenal. She has loved Heath since their childhood. She doesn't want to marry but she wants Heath anyway she can get him.

Heath is an honorable, serious businessman who is struggling to fit into the role of the Earl. He thinks he need a wife who won't cause a scandal, a sweet, demure innocent. Lightening strikes though when he sees Joss again. His desire for her is frustrating him and all kinds of ways.

I loved the plot! Heath's friend is killed carrying secret papers and Joss turns up in her carriage to help the confused Heath. The intelligent body collectors return to help and the Somerhall family butler and driver return to help with the adventure. I love how Heath is shocked at the knowledge of what Joss and her family really do. There is a bit of secondary romance as well. We get to see people from the other stories and the villian gets a satisfying end.

Review: What to do with a Duke by Sally Mackensie

My Rockin' Review

It starts with a curse. 200 years ago it is believed that the Duke of Hart cruelly left a wealthy spinster pregnant and she chose to end her life. She cursed the the Dukedom to have every Duke die before his heir is born. She set up her house to become the Spinster House, where the Duke of Hart has to choose a spinster to live in the house until she dies or decides to marry.

The current Duke of Hart is called the "Heartless Duke", but he is far from heartless. I felt for him the lonely orphaned duke, never to know his own child. He craves family but has had to harden his heart because of his belief in the curse.

Catherine "Cat" is a vicars' daughter. She has 10 siblings. Who could blame her for wanting to remain a spinster? All she wants is some peace to write her novel. She is one of 3 spinsters vying for the right to live at the Spinster House. I loved her character, she's stubborn, willful, independent and no innocent miss!

Every character in this novel was well thought out. Each had an original personality. I especially loved the youngest of Cats sibling , the twins. This was a different take on a historical romance. Humorous, scandalous, mysterious, and romantic the Spinster House series has intrigued.

Release Day Review: The Prince and I by Karen Hawkins

  [space size=10]

My Rockin' Review

A witty take on Robin Hood this time with the return of the Oxenburg Princes. If you'll remember in The Prince and I, it was a Cinderella remake. Karen Hawkins charms us again with this sweet fairy tale remake.

Gregori "Max" Romanavoin, is a warrior prince and a General in the Grand Army of Oxenburg. He and grandmother, Tata Natasha, the Grand Duchess or more like the devilish gypsy queen, who likes to turn people into goats, whom we've met several times, are on their way to the dastardly Earl of Loudans' estate. He is holding something over Tata and Max is determined to find out what is going on. Surprise, Surprise, on the way through the woods his coach is pulled over and he is asked to "donate" to the cause by "Robin Hood" and his (her?) merry band of thieves.

Lady Murian is fighting for survival with her band of widows and children. Her husband whats the rightful owner of the estate Lord Loudan has  taken control over. She is determined to prove that he acquired it be nefarious means. She find it irritating that she has become attracted to one of his "friends", Max.

The scenes between Max and Murian are littered with humor and romance. How can they be together when he is dedicated to his country and she is dedicated to her people? Will there romance end before it can even begin?

This twisted take on Robin Hood will bring you laughter and a satisfying ending. This second novel in the Oxenburg Princes is a humorous tale. Tata and her antics are troublesome and at times hilarious. I'd love to find out what Tata Natasha can get herself into next!

P.S. Don't you just LOVE that cover!!! I'd love a wall poster of it!! So gorgeous!!

I've finally found the time to do a little organizing and realized in order to get caught up I'm going to have to do something different. I've taken a leaf from Sarah @OneCurvyBlogger and have started doing some mini reviews which I call Snack Time with Nelle! They'll be a short little post with 3 to 5 reviews. [br]

What's going on in my real life world?

We live next to the woods and early the other morning I caught some wildlife just grazing away!

Quote-tastic/Review: Turning It On by Elizabeth Harmon

[space size=50]

quote-tastic final with green border

Have a favorite quote you'd like to share? This is hosted by Anna over at Herding Cats & Burning Soup!

My Quotes today show just how much of a hero, Vlad the Bad is to Hannah.
“I’m successful. Accomplished. I have a great job. I live in New York City. Here, all anyone cares about is how hot I am. Or more to the point, how hot I’m not!”
He nodded sympathetically. “It’s TV. Unfortunately, sex sells better than other good qualities.”

“Exactly! I can’t compete. I’m not like those other women, and I don’t even want to be. But I have no choice. Not unless I want to lose my fiancĂ© to a scheming bimbo and have the entire nation talking about what a pathetic loser I am. It’s humiliating.”

“You can always learn to be sexy.”Vlad looked her over. “You’ve got the right equipment. All you need is to learn to use it. I am around sexy women all the time. I could coach you. You know…sexy lessons.”

“Sexy lessons?”She had to laugh at that. “I’ve never thought of sexy as a learned skill.”

“It is, though. All about how you carry yourself.”He adjusted his posture and the set of his broad shoulders conveyed a confidence that was undeniably hot.

“And who better to teach me than a guy named Vlad the Bad who takes off his clothes for a living?”

“As Uncle Ivan used to say, it pays to work with best coach you can find.”

I did it because you are a beautiful, desirable woman, and a long time ago, someone made you think you weren’t. I’m not saying a few lessons from me can undo everything, but I want you to see a little bit of what I see when I look at you.”

Cast of Characters

Hannah Levinson - Successful Assistant Editor at a publishing agency, Engaged to Jack

Vladimir Shustov- "Vlad the Bad", Stripper at the Male Room

Jack Gordon - Entertainment Lawyer, Engaged to Hannah

Eric Conrad - Creator and Producer of Last Fling, High School friend of Jack and Hannah's

Alison Micheals - Former actress on Somerset High TV show

Robynne Lovejoy - Dental Hygienist

[space size=25]

My Rockin' Review

Turning it on. Sounds sexy, right? How bout a reality TV show called Last Fling? Engaged couples have chance at a last fling, contest style. Bachelorette with a lousy twist? Ok we all see the writing on the wall here, right?  The "fling" chosen on Finale night earns $250,000.

Eric talks them into being a couple on the Last Fling, with Jack being and eager beaver. Hannah, while sweet, is a total doormat for Jack. Douche walks all over her! Boo hoo, he wanted to be an actor and his rich mommy and daddy wouldn't pay for his college to study acting. The man makes enough as an entertainment lawyer to save some damn money and fund his own acting classes now! Hannah is clueless, she picks literary characters as her flings, not taking it seriously. So when Spoiler Robynne her perky dental hygienist shows up, Hannah is SHOCKED. I seriously want to throat punch Jack several time! Naive little Hannah believes Jack's protests that he just wanted her to get the money for the job. *Head Slap* *Duh, girlfriend!*

Vlad the Bad - VictorVlad the Bad is anything but bad! He usually picks out the plain/shy one in the bunch and focus on them to make them feel pretty. I fell in love with him! Magic Mike who? I'm a Vlad fan! He's a writer of dystopian novels and has a bit of a dark past. He wants the $250,000 that he'll earn if he gets between his assigned couple (He's Team Blue and Hannah & Jack are Team Red)

I loved the storyline. It was definitely unusual. The cast of characters was diverse, most of them being sleazy to the extreme but there were a couple good ones. The POV was odd in that we saw Vlad, Hannah and Erics POV's. There is a subplot with Eric. The romance between Hannah and Vlad was very slow to build, but it fits the story line as Hannah was staying true to her "love" of Jack. I really enjoyed the way the romance was dealt with after the show ended. It was very believable. Overall I had a good time reading this one.

Synopsis

51Yd9DZM5WL._SX314_BO1,204,203,200_
Book editor Hannah Levinson couldn't be happier. This "Nice Jewish Girl" is ready to marry the man she's longed after for half her life. When her fiancé suggests they audition for Last Fling, a steamy new reality show for engaged couples, she lets herself be swayed. Maybe she'll learn a thing or two.

Vlad Shustov's fall from a once-bright career as a competitive figure skater was swift. Now trapped by a shameful past and an uncertain future, "Vlad the Bad" strips for cash. Joining the cast of Last Fling could earn him a fortune—or at least enough to finally leave stripping. But to win the show's prize, he must seduce an engaged woman, something he can't even bear the thought of.

Hannah's not like any woman Vlad's met before. Betrayed by the man she thought she loved and relegated to the ugly-duckling role she'd worked so hard to shed, can she trust there's more to Vlad than meets the eye? With sleazy TV tactics shattering the last shreds of the contestants' confidence, they'll have to believe true happiness is not only possible...it may be looking right at them.

One last quote!
"Oh my God, you are wearing tear-off pants!"

Review: A Touch of Passion by Bronwen Evans

My Rockin' Review

The 3rd installment of Bronwen Evan's Disgraced Lord's Series! It's been fun watching the Libertine Scholars fall in love and try to find out who is trying to get vengeance on them all!

Lady Portia Flagstaff nearly died at age 16. She is determined to live life to the fullest and thumb her nose at Society, which is very unusual in that time period. She's been in love with her brother's best friend Grayson for ages. He catches her at a Cyprian Ball and kisses her to avoid her brother from catching her. Then they head off to war.

Grayson Devlin, Lord Blackwood has lost too many people he's loved. He's come back from war damaged and feeling that his love causes doom. His parents and sister were lost when he was young and the tragic loss of his best friend in the war has made him swear off loving again. He guards his heart with iron walls. He has one weakness his lust for his best friends sister, Portia. He's determined to resist her and find the perfect wife, one who won't argue with him or entice him in anyway so he won't fall in love with her.

Portia gets tricked into thinking she's going to meet Grayson and gets kidnapped and transported to a harem. I wish there was more drama and description there. There is no POV from the heroine saying how she felt about her adventure. Grayson miraculously gets there fast and gets her out. More action conflict was needed there, I think. I'd like to have seen more of the harem.

Overall it was an good solid read. Not the best in this series but I look forward to more and to finding out who this devilish fiend plotting against the Libertine Scholars turns out to be.

Review: Trouble When You Walked In by Kieran Kramer

[divider]

My Rockin' Review

What could get a librarians attention more than the threat of them tearing down her library! Cissie Rogers was the “librarian” type. She stuck to her books and hoped that the legend of the library would visit her. But when Boone Braddock first walks into her library and says its already a done deal? Oh My!! The fight is on!

Boone was never one to read books. He’s the local Mayor and has the perfectly understandable opinion that he will continue to serve as the small town of Kettle Knobs Mayor. When Cissie declares herself in for the running, he still stays confident of his success.

Boone and Cissie are part of a centuries old rivalry and the town is shocked when Cissie and her grandmother move in with him while the race for mayor is on. ( A tree fell through their kitchen). I loved the teasing between the two. Not many authors can pull of a romance while the characters are running in a political race and make it believable.

I fell in love with Boone almost from the beginning. His laid back nature and haunting secret spoke to me. Cissie was a sweet yet feisty character. The supporting characters were fun as well.

This story shows that you never know what goes on behind the scenes in a persons life.

[divider]

She’s a woman of her word.

Cissie Rogers likes to do everything by the book. Literally. The town librarian in Kettle Knob, North Carolina, she’s determined to preserve the future of literatureand the library’s romantic legend—for her patrons. It’s not easy when the mayor himself, Boone Braddock, wants to close the library down. There’s only one way for Cissie to put a stop to him: By running for mayor herself!

Is he a player—or does he mean business?

Boone is Kettle Knob’s favorite son, a champion athlete and stellar football coach with deep local roots. Cissie will need more than a savvy slogan and a pair of three-inch high heels to stand a chance at the polls. But what about the campaign that’s underway in her own heart?

What began as professional rivalry has transformed into a simmering attraction that neither contender can ignore. Could it be that the keeper of the town’s card catalog and the legendary football hero are ready to team up…and write their own storybook romance?

Review: Tremaine's True Love by Grace Burrowes

My Rockin' Review

Hero: Tremaine St. Micheal – The commerce driven male! Yes, this gentleman is in TRADE. What kind of trade? SHEEP! While you might think that’s boring, the way Tremaine cares for his sheep is adorable! Tremaine was a likable guy. He liked Nita from the first, even though he heard Nicholas, Earl of Bellefonte, her older brother, give her a 10 minute berating before he even met her. He respected Nita for her willingness to work and help others even though he could be a bit condescending at the same time.

Heroine: Lady Nita Haddonfield- Nita cares about the poor. She’s a healer and nurturing soul. She’ is feeling displaced as her brother the Earl recently got married and she’s no longer the woman of the house. She’s determined to nurse the sick, sometimes at a detriment to her own health.

The book had a lot of different viewpoints, you’ll see the thoughts, feelings and actions of most of Lady Nita’s family. There is subplot of a dastardly suitor for one of the Lady’s. George, who has leanings toward men, comes to befriend a marriageable widow and her son.

The romance between Tremaine and Nita was slow. They both had no interest in love and marriage at the beginning. They fell into friendship then slowly into love. The heat level was low. This book had more a women’s historical fiction feel to it than a romance. There was family drama, a bit of humor and romantic drama as well.

I tend to snap up anything Grace Burrowes writes as I’m a huge fan of hers. This one was a great book and I’d recommend it to anyone who is already a fan. If you haven’t yet read her, I would advise to start with an earlier work.

(I really wanted to smack Nicholas several times! He was really trying in this book! His and Leah’s book is Nicholas: Lord of Secrets, Lonely Lords #2)

What makes you the perfect date?

No one – including myself – has ever said that! But if I had to say something, it would be that I like to take care of all the details so that my date doesn’t have to worry about a thing.

What do you look for in a woman?

Typically someone strong and independent but also enjoys being taken care of.

Describe yourself in 100 words or less:

I’m a bit of a control freak – or so I’ve been told! I’m hard working and know exactly what I want out of life. I can be quiet and observant – a bit of a people watcher. I don’t enjoy crowds very much. I prefer if I’m out, to be out in a small group or with one person.

[divider]

Name: Hugh Shaughnessy

Occupation: Luxury Resort Owner/Designer

Height: 6’3

Hair Color: Dark Brown

Eye Color: Blue

Age: 32

What makes you the perfect date?

I am extremely attentive. I believe in taking a woman out for a romantic dinner with dancing and candlelight and making her feel like she is the most important thing in the world.

What do you look for in a woman?

She’s intelligent and easy to talk to but who isn’t looking for forever. I travel a lot and she would need to be understanding of that.

Describe yourself in 100 words or less:

I’m a really regimented man. I mean really. I like things done a certain way and I’m a stickler for routines and schedules. Some say I’m overly cautious – in every aspect of my life – but that doesn’t mean that I’m boring. I have an appreciation for the finer things and I’m outgoing and enjoy being around people and making new friends.

Name: Quinn Shaughnessy

Occupation: Former Race Car Driver turned Automotive Restorer

Height: 6’

Hair Color: Dirty Blonde

Eye Color: Blue

Age: 30

What makes you the perfect date?:

I’m the fun one in the family. I like to go out with a woman to a bar or someplace with loud music or find something athletic to do. I want to be where the party is.

What do you look for in a woman?

I’ll admit to being a little shallow here – I am all about looks. Tall, blonde, curvy…and that’s about it.

Describe yourself in 100 words or less:

Like I said, I’m the fun one. I am all about living life to the fullest. I enjoy sports – all sports – and I hate to be idle. Cars are my current passion and to me it’s go-big-or-go-home. If I can’t succeed and excel at something, then it’s time to move on. So far it’s worked for me.

[divider]

Name: Owen Shaughnessy

Occupation: Astrophysicist

Height: 6’

Hair Color: Dark Brown

Eye Color: Blue

Age: 28

What makes you the perfect date?

I don’t really think I am. I don’t believe perfect is something anyone can attain. Dating really hasn’t been on my radar but when I do take a woman out, we usually talk about science. And she’s normally a scientist so I guess you can say I make sure we talk about mutual interests.

What do you look for in a woman?

I spend a lot of my time trying to not be noticed. But if I notice a woman, it’s usually because we’re both working together or studying together. I look for someone who understands me.

Describe yourself in 100 words or less:

Quiet. Shy. Socially awkward. At least that’s how most people tell me I am. I don’t think about it much. I’m devoted to my field of study and helping others learn about astrophysics and it pretty much consumes all of my time and energy.

What makes you the perfect date?

When I’m out on a date with a woman, there is no one else in the world. I put all of my attention on her and do my best to make sure that our date includes everything she wants.

What do you look for in a woman?

I used to be all about the looks – mainly because women were always chasing after me. I had superficial relationships, now I look for a woman who sees more than a rock star, a celebrity. I want to find someone who just sees me.

Describe yourself in 100 words or less:

Confident. Talented. And currently, mildly insecure. I have always loved music, loved to sing and if I couldn’t do that, I don’t know what I’d do with myself. Music is just a part of me. I put my partying ways behind me – not that I had much of one. I’m just as comfortable on stage in front of thousands of people, as I am at home watching TV.

My Rockin' Review

Aidan is delicious! He's met his match in Zoe. The stubborn man is very particular (OCD much?)! Zoe walks in to one of his construction homes, after he gets another decorator/interior designer fired. He asks her to start at the beginning and list what she sees wrong. She proceeds to list so many things even HE didn't catch. Attraction commences! I loved the story. I liked there weekend alone, it was hot. But Aidans' flip-out was sudden and just odd. I get why he did it, I guess. It just broke my heart for Darcy.  Aidan seemed cruel to keep her away from his family when he knew she had none! His turn around seemed a little forced, but the big romantic gesture helped, since we got to see most of his brothers. It will be nice to see what Ms. Chase has in store for the rest of the Shaughnessy brothers! I'm quite looking forward to more!

#Review : Bound with Honor by Megan Mulry

My Rockin' Review

Holy moly this was HOT! This was a tantalizing tale of how people can throw away societal norms. This tale has MM/MF/FF sex. Be warned. (If you couldn't tell by the cover!) I freely admit I picked it because it was something I've never read before. For my first Megan Mulry book it was delicious! I can't wait to read more!

Archie is a lord who grew up with two mothers. His family is unconventional to say the least. He is determined to find a wife that is only his. He wants a "normal" relationship. Yes, he's hypocritical, but this is his journey into finding himself. He has help in the form of his scientist lover Christopher and Selina, his wife. (I personally would loved to have more of Christopher!! YUMM!)

Selina is a free-spirited woman, she has a lover Beatrix who's gone away on tour. Beatrix knows Selina is developing feelings for Archie and has given her approval so it doesn't feel like cheating. Selina has been through some tough times and her courtship with Archie was tumultous.

The characters were well-developed, the relationships were believable, the sex was hot with dom/sub tendencies. (Christopher is definitely Dom and I really wanted more of him!) I'd recommend this to anyone one who like menage stories with a little bit of plot and some really fascinating relationships.
